Matična številka — the registry number

The ten-character number an entity receives on entry into the Slovenian business register.

The matična številka is a Slovenian entity's primary identifier. AJPES assigns it on entry into the Poslovni register Slovenije, it never changes, and it is not reissued to anyone else after the entity is struck off.

The last three characters separate an entity from its parts: 5043611000 is the company, 5043611001 one of its branches. For entities with more than 999 branches the counter spills into a letter, so it is not a number and must never be treated as one.

Slovenia also has a separate tax number, assigned by the Financial Administration. The matična številka identifies an entity in the register; the tax number identifies it to the tax authority.
